Slamdance's Paranormal Activity Breaks Box-Office Record

Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity, a $10,000 budgeted picture that played its Festival premier and was purchased at Slamdance in 2008 broke the box-office record for a film playing at fewer than 200 theaters by selling $7.1 million worth of tickets in the US and Canada during the weekend of October 11-12, 2009. Incredibly it made over $44,000 per screen!

During the following weekend Peli's first-time effort expanded its release and made over $30 million. During the weekend of October 31-November 1, its box office total climbed to $84.8 million, providing Paramount with what may end up as its most profitable film ever.

At the end of November, Paranormal Activity has now made over $107 million at the box-office.
