1st Annual Slamdance/Adobe Re-cut Competition Calling For Entries


1st ANNUAL SLAMDANCE / ADOBE RE-CUT COMPETITION

 

INTRODUCTION 

Film production students in higher education anywhere in the world are invited to enter the First Annual Slamdance/Adobe Re-cut Competition for emerging editing talent. Entrants will re-cut a scene from the indie classic "Mall Cop" by Palm d'Or winning filmmaker and Grey's Anatomy editor David Greenspan.

Participants will re-cut a selected scene using Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS5 trial software (education version).  All re-cut submissions will receive trial copies of Adobe Premeire Pro CS5 to work with so everybody wins!  Three talented Finalists will be rewarded with their own Adobe® Creative Suite® Production Premium CS5 software (education version) and the winner will also earn a trip to Slamdance 2011 and experience seeing their winning work at the Festival.

Competition registration is now open and closes on October 1, 2010. Completed edits must be submitted by October 29, 2010.

ABOUT THE RE-CUT COMPETITION

Take production footage from a designated scene of "Mall Cop" directed by Slamdance alumni, Palm d'Or winner and Grey's Anatomy editor David Greenspan and re-cut it in a different way while retaining its meaning. In addition to original production picture and sound, entrants will be provided with the Script Supervisor’s completed shooting script of the scene, the “Mall Cop” screenplay and an extended trial version of Adobe® Premiere® Creative Suite® Production Premium software to work with. The best re-cuts, as chosen by Slamdance programmers and Adobe representatives as well as David Greenspan, will be showcased in a special screening program at Slamdance 2011!

PRIZES

Winning student editor will receive a trip to the 2011 Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. All Finalists will be provided with 2011 Festival Passes and additional sponsored prizes including Adobe Creative Suite Production Premium software. Student participants who successfully upload an edit of the selected scene from "Mall Cop" will receive a license of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.

ENTRY PROCEDURE

Please read the rules below and complete the 2010 Slamdance/Adobe Re-cut Competition entry form www.withoutabox.com. After completion, you will be directed to download a 2.2 GB production picture and sound file of the scene, Script Supervisor’s finished shooting script of scene, "Mall Cop" screenplay and a link for your Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 trial software download. This download will be supported with a pdf slideshow on how to download your specially licensed copy of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5. Then, re-cut your scene using these materials and send your finished work on DVD to Slamdance on or before October 29, 2010. GENERAL RULES

The 2010 Slamdance/Adobe Re-cut Competition is open to all individuals who are full-time students in higher education. Registration opens June 21, 2010 and closes on October. 1, 2010. All entrants have until October 29, 2010 to send their completed Re-cut entries on DVD to Slamdance.

For a collaborative entry, each person who worked on the entry must be listed on the entry form. However, only one lead editor can be awarded prizes. All those participating in a collaborative entry must be full-time students in higher education. Anyone affiliated with Slamdance or Adobe is not eligible to participate.

Entrant warrants by submitting their Re-cut entry all provided scene components and shooting script are copyrighted materials owned and reserved by David Greenspan and are being lent for the sole purpose for the 2010 Slamdance/Adobe Re-cut Competition.

No entry can be publicly posted online, sold or used for any commercial purpose either during the Competition or any time afterward.

JUDGING PROCESS

Final judging will take place on November 30, 2010.

Members of the Slamdance team including Peter Baxter and Paul Rachman, filmmaker and editor David Greenspan, and Adobe representatives will decide finalists and the winning entry.

The Judges decisions are final and binding.

FINALIST & WINNER

Finalists and the winner will be posted on slamdance.com by December 6, 2010.

ABOUT DAVID GREENSPAN

Born and raised in New York, a graduate of Harvard College and USC film school, David’s USC thesis short, BEAN CAKE, won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2001. David’s feature, MALLCOP, played in competition at the Slamdance and Oldenburg Film Festivals. David currently works as an editor on GREY’S ANATOMY.
