Warstory
Shooting my short film, KATRINA, the mayor's office made a mistake and permitted us for the same street as a BIG feature film directed by Paul Sorvino. It was about 12 degrees on the East River, I had four cars idling so that cast and crew could get warm. We set up a 2K down the block, several 650s, a 1K, the whole scene ready to go. And suddenly this HUGE crew comes around the corner, grip trucks, walkie-talkies, the whole bit. We talk to the AD. And both permits are legit. Then I see Paul Sorvino himself heading my way, and I'm thinking: "Holy crap, I'm about to go toe to toe with Pauly!" He gets right up to me and just puts out his hand, saying: "Hey, I'm Paul." He asks about our project, we talk about his. Finally, Mr. Sorvino does the most stand-up thing I have ever seen, and tells his crew to take lunch so we could get our shots on that street, then they would come back later.
